After arriving in the snow-bound town, Ted learns that he has been willed a pack of cutely named sled dogs: Demon, Diesel, Duchess, Nana, Mack, Scooper, Sniff and Yodel. Problem is, the town’s premiere sled-dogger, Thunder Jack (James Coburn), wants the pack for himself, and encourages Ted to go back to his tropical environment. They are also three times longer than an ordinary locust, can travel approximately 300 miles a day and could be capable of devouring an entire continent. The entire population is in a panic as the swarms multiply and attack areas from coast-to-coast. As food supply, livestock and even human lives are threatened by these seemingly unstoppable creatures, the president orders the formation of a special task force to work with Maddy and her team.
